MARC Jan 2014 Meeting

Members of the Montrose Amateur Radio Club met Friday, January 16th, 2015, at the Olathe Community Center, for their monthly meeting. Some interesting announcements:

  • A team of MARC members, Bill Bear, KCØQXX, Royce Seymour, AAØJD, and Steve Schroder, KIØKY, placed first in the Phone, Low Power, Multi-op category in the 2014 Colorado QSO party. You can read about their operation by clicking here.
  • The Tailgate Party, a ham-equipment-only swap meet that the club hosts annually at the Lion’s Pavilion at Confluence Park, will be held the first Saturday in June, which is June 6th, 2015.
  • Interest was expressed in the ARRL’s Logbook of the World (LoTW), and Dave Casler, apparently the only club member to have made the difficult software work successfully, (and he only after several tries,) will give a presentation on it at the February meeting.
  • James Graves showed a small receive loop antenna that works from 7-MHz on up. The plans for the antenna may be found online by clicking here.

Here are three photos from the meeting:

James Graves, currently studying for his Tech, showed the club a loop antenna he built for receiving the HF bands from 40m on up.
